Legal Situation: Prostitution itself is legal. But prostitutes are not allowed to tout on the public highway. Procuring is also illegal. A prostitute is the only one person who can use the money she earns. If she is married and buys food for the family her husband can be prosecuted as a procurer. The old luxurious brothels ("houses of tolerance") as well as the registration of prostitutes have been abolished in 1946 by the communists and socialists in the parliament. Sometimes, apartments in which a prostitute works are declared as brothels and closed.

The age of consent is 18.
